Coach’s Comments

Good win for us this Saturday with the team playing well against Helensville, taking the game out 41 to 24. It was a close first half with both teams scoring try for try being 17 all at half time as both teams converted one try each. In the second half the team picked up their game, mauling a little better as well as more of our players started making their tackles.

Finau had a very good game getting a hat trick of tries. He made some nice runs as well as breaking the line well. One of his tries resulted from an intercept that he dotted down under the post making it easier for James to convert earning him the player of the day award.

James converted 3 tries and made some good tackles in the second half earning him the manager’s award. Wayne again who is becoming our try scoring machine for the team got another 4 tries and running hard as usual. Our scrum went well at times Donero, CJ, Joseph, Caleb and Masulu did well in the front row and they gained a few tight heads for us.

As usual at training our normal work on tackling and fitness still stands this coming Tuesday and Thursday we will also be working on the forwards hitting the contact area together as well as concentrating on supporting the ball carrier. For the backs we will be looking at our defence line and backing each other up.

Just to remind the parents as I mentioned after the game we will contact you if we cancel any of the trainings if you don’t hear from us training is still on. Regarding the game cancellations listen to 1ZB in the morning on Saturday at 7am.

The photos aren't so hot today... my camera is sick, which makes me feel a bit sick too as it's an extension to my arm. :-) I think it may have Occupational Overuse Syndrome. :-( Anyway I had to use a smaller lens and the crop all the photos in. I hope it will be fixed by next week.

Game 5 The Coaches Bench

Coach’s Comments

It was a disappointing loss to North Shore last Saturday. We went down 49 to 12. North Shore played well coming back from a 12 nil deficit in the beginning of the match. Wayne scored our 2 only tries as well as being our player of the day as he had a good game. James M converted one of them. It was a hard game for the team and there were some good points to their play. Mere and James M were the managers picks this week- she's a softy and couldn't decide on only one.

Once again our tackling let us down as we need to be concentrating on making our first up tackles. We have a good team this year and have the ability to play good rugby so there is not a lot to say about Saturday except to say lets leave it behind us and move on.

I’m looking forward to the next practice.

To the parents it’s important that all the boys make training as we have only had a full team at practices a couple of times so far. The more the Team practices together the better they will be especially for our new players and as usual DON’T FORGET YOUR MOUTH GUARDS AND RUGBY BOOTS FOR TRAINING (Now at 4:30pm)!!

Not a great movie this week I'm sorry to say. But this weekend at Helensville I think I might park myself on the opposition try line as all the action happens as far away from me as possible... the movie will be terrible but the game result would be good!

We have great parents on our team- that's Te's Dad in the middle there who did a fantastic job of warming up the kids before this weeks game. James M's Dad often helps out at practices as does Mere's Dad Chris (he's in the last photo) when he can- and he did a great job as linesman this week as well. And of course Terry as well as coaching this week got the bonus job of first half referee and did an awesome job... and lived to tell the story! Thanks guys!!
