Coach’s Comments
It was a disappointing loss to Takapuna and we went down 69 to 33. Or though it was good to get 33 points in the game our tackling and defence let us down. When as a team we don’t make our tackles it is always going to be hard to win a game. Our tackles were very soft and at times we looked like we were cuddling the opposition or just tugging at their shirts. Just so the team knows this is the definition of tackle vs. a cuddle…
Cuddling: Refers to the action of hugging or embracing another person (a lot like Saturday).
Tackle: In Rugby a tackle is defined by a defender driving the attacker into the ground the primary purposes of tackling is to dispose the opposition of the ball, to stop the player from gaining ground towards the try line or to stop them from carrying out what they intend.
On saying all that, Takapuna is a very good side and they had a very cohesive team it would do well for the team to try and remember how Takapuna played because that is where we want to be.
Everyone knows how we lost and we have to be harder in our play. Training is obvious this week…..
